This course is designed to equip trainees with the knowledge and skills to provide care for older people in e variety of settings.

Trainees who successfully complete this course will:

  • Demonstrate good work practices in the provision of individualised holistic care for older people.
  • Understand the concept of the ageing process
  • Be able to meet the full range of needs of older people in a variety of care setting.
  • Enhance the quality of life of the older person

Specific Learning Outcomes are grouped into 4 Unit(s)

Unit 1: Ageing Process

Unit 2: Working with the Older Person

Unit 3: Caring for the Older Person with Specific Needs

Unit 4: Care Settings

Who should attend?

All persons wishing to expand their knowledge of the Care of the Older Person in the workplace including Managers, Supervisors, Responsible Persons and other employees.

Assessment & Certification

Participants will be required to complete the course along with a Practical Skills Demonstration (60%) and 2 written assignments (40%) set by FETAC to receive Level 5 Certification.

Preferred Entry Level

Level 4 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experience.
